The year 2025 was the third consecutive year that iGaming legislation failed to gain traction in the Hoosier state. However, progress was made among legislators.
At the start of 2026, it's noteworthy that two online gambling bills are making their way through the state legislature. The first bill is seeking to legalize access to iLottery sites, making ot easier for residents to play the state lottery. This bill has already cleared committee scrutiny by a vote of 9-3. It seems certain this bill will pass both houses and head to Governor Mike Braun's office for signature before summertime.
Another bill is circulating among lawmakers. This second bill aims to amend a prior bill that was presented to legalize online casino gambling. It hasn't yet made it to committee, but hopes are high it will do so early this year.
With access to sweepstakes casinos becoming a viable concern across the state, it could be enough to motivate lawmakers to seriously consider finally legalizing online casino gambling for the state's residents. There's a general feeling that thetime has come to give players a legal online casino option that is properly regulated.
Note: The Indiana gambling industry is also looking to make changes in the retail casino community. These actions are being directed at relocating casino licenses in Indianapolis and or Fort Wayne.
