It was the state of New Jersey that became the first U.S. state to legalize online casino gambling for its residents. That took place more than a decade ago. Here in late 2023, the New Jersey online casino community is going strong. With more than a dozen online casinos from which to choose, two more online casino operators are throwing their hats into the ring.
The Jackpocket organization had already established an online gambling presence in the U.S. when it launched online lottery platforms in 10 U.S. states. Yes, that included New Jersey and neighboring New York. They had also gotten an informal introduction to the New Jersey online casino market in 2021 via a prior partnership with Caesars Interactive Enterprises. All this surely served as motivation for the creation of the Jackpocket Casino mobile app.
There were indications this move was coming when Jackpocket Casino entered into a content deal with software developer White Hat Gaming. That took place in March 2023. With White Hat's help, the Jackpocket Casino app got the payment system it needed, leading to the company's November 29, 2023, launch.
Though Jackpocket received its license to offer New Jersey online casino access more than two months ago, they wanted to make sure all the ducks were in order before beginning the current "soft launch." The app is currently available for devices that use the iOS operating system. Information about an Android app should be forthcoming. It's good to see that the list of contributing game software developers includes Netent, one of the top online casino game software developers in the world.
To date, no official announcement has been made regarding the availability of the Jackpocket Casino app. That's likely due to the company taking a wait-and-see position until they know more about how the app is being received by NJ online gamblers.
While Jackpocket Casino sits in soft-launch mode, another online casino operator is preparing to join the fray. Management at Hacksaw Gaming has formally received licensing from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. According to a final agreement, Hacksaw will be able to launch its mobile casino app sometime around the end of 2023.
Hacksaw Gaming is currently operating out of the European online gambling mecca of Malta. This will be the second launch in a U.S. state with the first one coming in West Virginia in November of 2022.
In a press release from Marcus Cordes, Hacksaw Gaming Chief Executive Officer, he stated:
“Hacksaw is unstoppable in its ventures. We are ecstatic to see the rate at which we are broadening our horizons and the headway we are making in getting the recognition our content deserves. There is no doubt that Hacksaw will thrive in the US.”
While clearly excited about expanding its U.S. operations, Hacksaw officials are equally excited about launching its online gambling products in other countries with an eye on the Canadian market in the near future.
