Google Play Store offers daily fantasy sports applications

The gaming industry in the United States is working on several pilot programs that will bring new development the online gambling market. For the most part, the Daily Fantasy Sports market has been one of the most relevant industries in the United States, and practically the strongest supporter of the online gambling market expansion. And now that the new NFL Season 2015 is taking off, the several Daily Fantasy Sports operators have been working with gaming developers to increase the ventures of going online on many of the US states that are at this time working on legalizing or decriminalizing the online gambling market. Fanduel and DraftKings, two of the most robust Daily Fantasy Operators, have been signing contracts with the most important sports national leagues in the country, creating one of the strongest business networks.

Google Play has been able to identify this new opportunity and is now part of that business network. This caught us all by surprise as Google policy made clear long time ago that, that was not allowing this type of activity: “We do not allow content or services that facilitate online gambling, including but not limited to, online casinos, sports betting and lotteries, or games of skill that offer prizes of cash or other value”. By following the closed limited pilot policy in the United States, Google Play Store has decided to offer two Daily Fantasy Sports applications. Android phone’s users can now find Daily Fantasy Sports applications for both, Fanduel and DraftKings, at Google Play Store. The move has brought a lot of controversy, as Google did not make any public announcement. Instead, Google lift up the ban on Daily Fantasy Sports activities for Android phones’ users, allowing them to download both applications from the Play Store. This happened one day before the NFL Season 2015 kicked off, which has led both Daily Fantasy Sports operators to make their move. FanDuel and Draft Kings made their respective announcements to their users. FanDuel by tweeting the download link at the Google Play store, and DraftKings through one of its affiliates. Both applications allow players to open accounts, make deposits, and wager on contests.
