Ron Manfred, North America’s Major League Baseball (MLB) new commissioner, has gotten into the debate, calling for immediate sports betting reforms in the United States as the sports betting market is suffering the consequences from dealing with a few narrow-minded politicians who just want to secure their sponsors’ wealth. Coincidently, politician’s sponsors are coming up from any corner of the country, but they all share the same common interest: keeping the land-based gambling business intact. The Silver State, Nevada, is the only one in the US that, federally, allows players to place bets on sporting events. And while Nevada proves that the sports wagering services is one of the safest and most profitable industries in the US, the rest of the country continues living in La La Land, criminalizing sports wagering services as if that activity needed to be punished with severe penalties. Gambling sector’s experts, plus some sports and political figures, cannot believe what the country is really trying to achieve on the sports betting issue; the studies provide great figures on revenues while sports wagering operators are offering safe and legal ways to place bets.
The latest of these figures, straight one of the main US sports leagues, Ron Manfred, North America’s Major League Baseball (MLB) new commissioner, has made a few statements replying Adam Silver’s comments, North America’s National Basketball Association (NBA) commissioner: “Gambling in terms of our society has changed its presence on legalization. I think that it is important for there to be a conversation between me and the owners about what our institutional position will be. I understand the arguments that Adam made. I think the most appropriate thing for me is to wait until I have had a chance to deal with the owners on this topic.”
