888 and WSOP will be sharing online pools in New Jersey

January 18, 2015

We received Monday 12th of January one of the greatest news in the last months. New Jersey is going to begin sharing online gaming prize pools with two of the most important online gambling operators in the world: WSOP and 888. Both online gambling operators will share players in New Jersey to prove that a larger market must be created in order for the same market itself to become one of the most profitable in the US. The agreement not only will boost players’ liquidity but also will continue improving the New Jersey market on its second year of online gambling legislation. The state regulator, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, has been one of the main advocates for online poker as this, the online poker industry, has been always one of the most profitable markets. The NJDGE is under the impression that the online poker industry in the US is going to go through changes and new developments, and New Jersey is going to see its market boosted. The gaming states like Nevada and New Jersey were the first ones to recognize online poker as one of the most profitable industries within the country. The potential growth for this year for only the online poker market will be proving that the online gaming industry must be contained in a legal market frame that can create a better economy for the state; so far, the 75% of NJ’s online gaming revenue comes from online casinos and poker rooms. It was not too difficult to believe that New Jersey was going to be the first one to push the envelope, and the shared online pools were the next step for the online gaming market.

WSOP and 888 are the ones to bring us the shared online pools in New Jersey, where they will be sharing $130,000 weekly. David Licht, chief executive officer of the All American Poker Network, the joint venture between 888 Holdings and Avenue Capital, said: “This is an excellent step forward for us and should help in building a larger audience and player base for online poker in New Jersey. Shared liquidity will help create a better player experience that we hope will attract a diversity of players and begin to bring poker to a broader audience once again”. Bill Rini, Director of Online Poker at WSOP.com, stated: “It is important we continue to experiment and look for new ways to create stickiness. Customers used to playing on our site will not notice anything different, except more robust action and bigger prize pools. We also hope this will help expand the market by offering more variety”.

WSOP.com and 888poker.com will begin with guaranteed tournaments each on a weekly basis, as well as the cash games, Limit and No-limit Texas Hold’em, and Sit & Go. 888poker.com and WSOP.com will be offering us multi-table tournaments, daily guaranteed tournaments and shared liquidity cash games, two tournaments on Sundays, an the Big Sunday tournament on January 18, 2015.
