Poker Websites Clamor For Pennsylvania Online Licenses

Caesars is nearly prepared to launch WSOP online poker in Pennsylvania very soon. Pennsylvania remains one of just a handful of states that has legalized online poker, and there are a handful of providers who already serve the area. However, many more are rumored to be looking at the possibility of doing exactly that very soon.

PokerStars and its land-based partner Mount Airy have had a virtual monopoly on the online poker market for a long time. The two partnered up early on to offer games to Pennsylvania, and they have not looked back.

The earliest rumblings of a possible deal to incorporate Caesars into the landscape of online poker in Pennsylvania came when they launched an online casino by partnering with Harrah’s Philadelphia to make it happen. The two worked together to bring out this online casino and possibly to form an ongoing partnership in online poker.

The soft launch of the website came in late April as the two companies wanted to test to see how well their product could potentially do in a market that had never been tested by them before. They only had about a dozen games on offer, but they still generated around $231,000 just in those waning days of April.

Caesars is getting a lot of headlines for the moves that they have made in the Pennsylvania online poker market, but they are not alone. Another popular brand known as 888 Poker has always sniffed around the idea of getting involved as well. An investor call in mid-April took place, and the CEO said that they were also looking at a launch of an online poker site, but the details were simply not forthcoming.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Director Doug Harbach said that the 888 Poker platform was not ready to go for launch just yet, but he indicated that the company was exploring that possibility. There is not yet a date for launch set.

So many companies have begun to look at the Pennsylvania online market as an area that could be ripe with opportunity for them. Delaware, New Jersey, and Nevada are other potential markets, but Pennsylvania is the largest population of any of the states that have outright legalized and regulated online poker. Thus, the providers are clamoring to get involved. Aside from that, they also love the opportunity to provide this service to people who are stuck at home due to the COVID-19 virus. It could be a booming time for online services.
